If you’re anything like us, you might have been out of the dating scene for a while and find yourself in need of a dating reboot. However, the things we read on the blogs, Twitter threads, and even just hearing from friend’s experiences, are discouraging. But those adorable videos of animals cuddling make you wonder if you should download Bumble. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
Navigating the single scene can be rough, especially if you’ve been out of it for a while. The streets can be rugged and sometimes we just don’t have the energy to deal, heck a lot of the time. But fear not! We’re here to offer some advice and share our experiences to help make the transition a bit smoother.
Firstly, we try not to put too much pressure on ourself. Remember, dating is supposed to be fun. We try not to get too bothered with finding “the one” right away. Focus on meeting new people, trying new things and enjoying yourself. If you approach dating with an open mind, you might just be surprised by the people you meet and the experiences you have.
Also, take time to reflect on what you’re looking for in a partner. This might have changed since you last dated. Be honest with yourself and make sure you’re not just settling for anyone. Remember, it’s better to be single than to be in a relationship that isn’t right for you. Take it from us.
Another tip is to try different ways of meeting people. Apps like Bumble and Tinder can be great(not in Lagos), but don’t be afraid to join clubs, and attend events. Maybe it’s time to attend that Singles Love feast at church that your mum has been recommending.
Also, when we dove back into the dating pool, we told all our friends about it. Just so they could take the cue to introduce us to any single people that seemed like a good fit for us. Your perfect match might be a mutual friend.
Moving on to our most important points, we want to make sure to block out all the negative noise and look at the positive experiences and love stories that exist because they do. Enough of reading the Reddit posts!
Lastly, remember to take care of yourself. Dating can be tough and rejection is a part of the game. Don’t take it too personally and make sure you’re taking care of yourself emotionally and physically.
Take your time, be honest with yourself and have fun. You never know who you might meet along the way. And tell us what your type is, we might have someone for you.
