The Harmattan season is coming and we’re all gearing up for it. This is the season where everything gets super dry and dusty, and personally it gets me upset by how many times I have to clean my house. But we’re all in this together, so let’s talk about how we can all get ready for this season.
First of all, let’s talk about the weather. We all know that the Harmattan season is known for having very cold mornings and scorching hot afternoons. So, make sure you’re prepared for both. Wear warm clothing in the mornings and something light to wear in the afternoon. And hot showers are key for the morning showers. If you like to shower with cold water, even during harmattan, you’re the bravest of us all. You also want to apply your sunscreen religiously, especially on those hot afternoons.
Now, let’s talk about the dust. We all know that everything gets dusty during Harmattan. From our homes to our cars, everything gets a layer of dust. This can be tough on those of us with allergies or respiratory issues. So, let’s take some steps to prevent this. We’re cleaning our homes and cars regularly to prevent dust from accumulating. Invest in an air purifier if you can, to help with any allergies or respiratory issues.
One of the other downsides to Harmattan is the flu that tends to come with it. It’s important to take steps to prevent getting sick during this season. Make sure you wash your hands regularly, wear a mask if you’re going to be around others and avoid touching your face.
Lastly, let’s talk about our skin and hair. Harmattan season will have our skin and hair dry and itchy. We use oily moisturisers to keep our skin hydrated for longer and drink lots of water to keep our bodies hydrated. Also, don’t forget to use hydrating products on your hair regularly. We might also wear protective hairstyles to avoid breakage.
So, there you have it, some tips and tricks for getting through Harmattan season. Remember, we’re all in this together, so let’s help each other out and stay healthy and happy during this season. Or Nigeria’s climate might just give us the biggest plot twist and leave harmattan out of our itinerary this year. I would be pleasantly surprised.
