We cannot overemphasize the importance of sunscreen in today’s world. Social media has helped open our eyes to why we should invest in SPF. Reasons being to protect our skin from the harsh ultraviolet rays of the sun and even the artificial lights that come from our ring lights and LED lights. We used to hate to hear this but experts advise us to use sunscreen on cloudy and rainy days. Also, we shouldn’t fail to apply our SPF while indoors. Well, to us in Nigeria and countries with mostly hot weather, that sounded a bit bizarre and wasteful to be honest. But we love that we’ve grown and now we understand better.
Here’s a few things we’ve learnt and would like to share as to why we should all use sunscreen, everyday at a place and time.
It prevents sunburn. We’ve stepped out in the sun with full confidence that we would still remain our shade of complexion whenever we returned back home.
It reduces inflammation of the skin. You might be acne prone or have a case of rosacea like some of us and exposure to the sun can cause our skin to get easily inflamed and very uncomfortable. And no one wants to have to go through that, we certainly don’t want you to.
It prevents the risk of skin cancer. We don’t like the “C” word. If we could do anything to avoid having to deal with it then we sure will and you should too.
The truth is that SPF will prevent a lot of things from going wrong with our skin. But we can’t forget to tell you that choosing the right SPF is just as important as using it in the first place. We like to use SPFs that are 30 and above because SPF 15 really doesn’t have much coverage especially for the girls living in the African regions. We also love to avoid any sunscreen product that’ll leave us looking like Casper the ghost made a special appearance so we preferably love using the Uncover SPF 50 with aloe. It leaves no white cast, hydrates our skin and not in a way that leaves your skin oily but gives a finishing glow. This sounds like an ad, we know. But if it’s good, we’re not going to gate keep. Although, you can reach out to your dermatologist to get one that’ll work perfectly for your beautiful skin.
And this might require some extra effort but one thing we’ll do is reapply our sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming, sweating or using a towel.
