A Gym Rat’s Starter Kit

It might have taken nine months from when you actually made your new year resolution but you’ve finally decided it’s time to get fit and fabulous. We’re excited for you but before you dive into the world of treadmills and dumbbells, let’s talk about your Gym Rat Starter Kit – the must-haves to kickstart your fitness journey.

  1. A Pair of Correct Sneakers: Invest in a good pair of gym shoes. Pick the ones that match your workout style – running shoes for sprinters, lifting shoes for weightlifters. Remember, it’s all about comfort, not just style.
  2. Comfortable Workout clothes: There are so many gym clothes out, tailored to fit your style and aesthetic so you have the freedom to choose the one that allows you to move freely and look great while at it. Your oversized t-shirt from years ago won’t cut it anymore. Choose moisture-wicking fabrics if you plan to break a sweat, which you probably will.
  3. Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is a top priority. Get yourself a trusty water bottle. We know for sure that you’ll be sweating like it’s a sauna in there, so keep your bottle filled and keep sipping throughout. You can find the ones with cute motivational quotes on them.
  4. Exercise Mat: This is probably our favourite gym kit. Not every workout requires you to be on your feet so we want you as comfortable and clean as possible and most importantly, off of the bare floor.
  5. Sanitary Wipes: You might call us “extra” but the idea of sharing gym equipment with multiple people without wiping it down with a sanitary wife, makes our skin crawl. It’s important to stay germ-free and don’t forget to clean off your sweat for the next person.
  6. Slick Gym Bag: Pick one that’s just the right size for you– not too big, not too small. Your gym bag will be your sidekick on this fitness adventure, literally.
  7. Resistance Band: If you watch the YouTube girls then you know that this is a must-have. It’s a versatile tool for a ton of exercises, and it won’t break the bank. Easy to carry, it’s your workout buddy on the go.
  8. Foam Roller: It’s a post-workout massage that helps with flexibility and muscle recovery. Even though most gyms have a general one, you may want to have a portable one to use on those sore spots at home.

Remember, you’re lifting your spirits, confidence, and health. Find a workout buddy if you’re too shy to start alone, set achievable goals, push your limits, and most importantly, enjoy the journey.
