NayLiving’s Guide to Picking the Perfect Wedding Outfit

One thing we love is…weddings! There’s nothing we enjoy more than being part of a celebration of love, especially if it’s not ours.

We’re no longer the ‘tag along’ to our parents’ event. We’re here because we actually know the couple or, at least, we know someone who knows the couple. There’s no more acting awkwardly beside your parents, which was most likely the case at your cousin’s wedding when you were fourteen. At the end of the day, our goal is to have a great time and look drop-dead gorgeous doing it.

As much as we love our celebrations, one thing is for sure, lovelies – Weddings can be tricky when it comes to the dressing part. From our very observational experience (you know how we love observing), no two weddings are the same. Cultures, traditions, even personal choices of the couple all influence what the wedding day will look like, which means we have to pick our outfit quite carefully. But, no pressure, we always want you to go as you are, which is gorgeous. We just never want you to feel like you could have picked a better outfit, hence why we’re being so extra.

Take our Nigerian NayLiving community, for instance, their weddings are loud, vivacious and absolutely magnificent, much like the heartwarming people themselves. Now, when it’s such a festival, how can we possibly hold ourselves back? We must show out!

Our Indian NayLiving girls would relate too! With Sarees as beautiful as the Indian culture itself, can you really be blamed for wanting to wear one at a Desi wedding?

On the other hand, some of our other friends may have more low-key, formal, or perhaps minimalist wedding cultures. No one said you can’t look glamorous in subtlety. Elegance is indeed understated, Don’t you think?

Of course, not every wedding screams cultural display. Some couples prefer to go with a certain theme or a dress code. The clue’s right there on the invite. The wedding couple may have a specific colour code. We suggest playing within those boundaries, using it as a challenge to put together an outfit that makes you shine while also respecting the couple’s wishes.

And we never forget to consider the venue and weather too. A light, breezy dress may work wonders at a beach wedding, while a sophisticated long dress could look great at a hotel reception.

enough of what you should consider. The real tea for the perfect wedding outfit – Wear. It. With. Confidence. Trust us, when you have the confidence shining out, no one is going to remember anything else.

So go forth, have a fabulous time and remember to do it the NayLiving way, if you really want to. Because at the end of the day, our style, our choice. Let’s dress not to impress, but express!  Enjoy the wedding, and don’t forget to send us your gorgeous pictures. We’re right there with you!
