Tonight, I found out that there’s such a thing as Voluntary Insomnia. Here’s how I found out: It was 10:45 pm and I was literally dozing off while watching TV, my phone kept dropping out of my hand—that type of dozing. So, I went upstairs to my bedroom, still sleepy but I decided to “beat” the sleep and watch a few more TikTok videos. Then I thought to myself, “Who told adults that it wasn’t cool to sleep early?”
Is there any adult that still goes to bed by 8pm?
Anyway, I googled ‘Voluntary Insomnia’ and it actually is a thing! It is when we restrict ourselves from sleeping or choose not to sleep.
We know that feeling of wanting to stay up just a little longer because you feel like you’re missing out on something. It’s easy to get sucked into that cycle of staying up late and then feeling exhausted the next day. But is it worth it? We don’t think so.
We should embrace the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. It’s great for our physical and mental well-being. So why do we still think it’s uncool to sleep early? We should be proud to prioritize our health and take care of ourselves. But we also understand that it’s difficult for some of us to even feel sleepy.
We really want you to get your beauty sleep and enough of it so we’re suggesting some sleeping tea. While we’re not comfortable with taking substances like sleeping pills, except prescribed by a doctor, we do have some natural herbal teas that can improve your sleep health.
Valerian tea. It is known to be one of the most effective teas for sleep but it does have its side effects like headaches, dizziness etc. So, do check in with your doctor to get their permission.
Chamomile tea. This magic worker kicks in around thirty to forty minutes after taking it. So, we like to have it before we’re about to go to bed.
Lavender, Passionflower and Lemon balm tea also help induce sleep. And if you’re just not a tea person like some of us then you can warm up a cup of milk.
We hope you try it and get some great sleep and also, stop trying to stay awake by all means, you’re not missing out on anything, we promise! Now, let’s go to bed.
