The idea of going on a journey to far-off lands may seem scary, especially for those just starting out in the world of travel. But don’t be scared, because we have been in your shoes and like always, we’re sharing all our tricks on how we went from couch potato to Dora the Explorer in no time.

Embrace the Desire to Travel: Allow yourself to dream, imagine, and fantasize about the places you want to visit. We would let our mind wander to the streets of Paris, the majestic landscapes of New Zealand, or the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu. Immerse yourself in the beauty and magic of travel, and let that be the driving force behind your journey.

Research and Plan: Planning might sound intimidating, but truthfully, it’s all part of the adventure. We started by researching our dream destinations to get a sense of what they had to offer. We’d look for travel blogs, guides, and forums where you can find valuable information and insider tips. We made a list of the must-see attractions, hidden gems, and local experiences that would appeal to us, but stayed open to spontaneous discoveries along the way.

Start Small: You don’t need to book a round-the-world ticket for your first trip. We don’t know who told us that we had to but we’re glad we didn’t listen. Start small and build up your travel confidence. Choose a destination that is closer to home or one that aligns with your interests. Whether it’s a road trip to a nearby state, or a short flight to Ghana if you live in Africa.

Pack Smart, Travel Light: One of the secrets to stress-free travel is learning the art of packing smart and traveling light. We are grateful for travel kits that brands are making available. We know that this might be hard for the baddies but you want to pack only the essentials so you can leave room for souvenirs and stuff you’ll collect along the way.

Get Familiar with the Locals: One of the most rewarding aspects of travel is immersing yourself in the local culture. Embrace the language, try the local cuisine, and engage with the locals. Be curious, ask questions, and seek out opportunities to learn about their traditions, customs, and way of life. The more open-minded and respectful you are, the richer your travel experience will be. We promise, it’s one of the best things about leaving your own bubble.

Embrace the Unexpected: Now this is our favourite because, even with the best-laid plans, travel is full of surprises. We love when the unexpected happens, whether it’s bumping into people you know or clicking with those that you don’t. Plans are bound to change. We are always open to changes in our itinerary. So don’t be afraid to go with the flow.

Create Lifelong Memories: What is the essence of travel if not to make memories with loved ones or for yourself. Capture those special moments with photographs, journal entries, or simply by taking a mental snapshot. These memories will stay with you long after you’ve returned home. We’d talk about those memories for life. Meanwhile, don’t leave us out of it—tag us in your photos, we want to see it all!
