Today, at NayLiving, we’re grateful for the sense of smell. Pre-Covid, you might’ve called us dramatic, but I bet we’re all extra appreciative of our ability to smell now. Scents indeed affect our mood, probably why there’s such a thing as an “offensive smell” and why aromatherapy, in practice for decades, has gained more appreciation.
We’ve heard that certain scents manage to stir up different emotions – serenity, passion, even sleep. Notice those scented candles that man always lights when you come over? Well, he’s onto something!
Juggling dreams, jobs, kids, and relationships isn’t easy. Stress seems to sneak up when least expected. This is where scented candles and diffusers come to our rescue, spreading captivating, calming smells, creating an invisible layer of peace amid daily chaos. But, it only works if you pick the right scents.
Speaking of scents, here are calming ones we’ve discovered really help to unwind:
Lavender: Relaxing, soothing, great for sleep.
Eucalyptus: Rejuvenating and energizing, like doing yoga with your nose.
Vanilla: Comforting and calming, like the warmest blanket of the scent world.
Chamomile: Similar to lavender, relaxing and helps with sleep. Last time we checked, sleep is one of the best stress relievers.
Jasmine: If you’re more into floral scents then this would be a great option for you.
Rosemary: Even though it smells herbal, it is great for enhancing focus and concentration but can also have a calming effect on the mind.
Sandalwood: With its warm and woody aroma, sandalwood is often used in meditation practices for its grounding and relaxing qualities.
Peppermint: it has a soothing effect, especially for headaches and tension.
Frankincense: We can call this one a spiritual scent as well. If you ever heard the story of Jesus’ birth then you know of this as one of the gifts that one of the wise men brought. It’s also a very calming scent.
Citrus (Bergamot or Sweet Orange): Citrus scents are refreshing and uplifting, and provide some positivity while still contributing to a calm atmosphere.
Aromatherapy doesn’t only come in forms of diffusers and scented candles. We can also be intentional about room sprays and perfumes. Don’t be scared to spray a bit on your pillow. We promise it’ll be one of your favorite naps.
Give it a try and share your experience with us. At NayLiving, we’re in love with these scented goodies, not just because they smell divine, but because they make us feel good! Aromatherapy might be a whole science, but we see it as nature’s own stress therapy.
So, friends, let’s bring in more zen and harmony into our chaotic life with the soothing power of natural scents.
