The key to starting all over again

There’s been a lot of conversation around starting all over again on the internet. A lot of us have stayed in one spot for too long because we’re scared of starting all over again. Whether it’s pivoting your career path, rethinking those childhood dreams you’ve held onto for too long, or even leaving a long-term partner, it’s hard. It’s a lot of mental work to accept that we need to but we know for a fact, we can do it. Many of us are eager to pick ourselves up and try again, whatever trying means to you. However, starting anew in life takes a lot of courage, as it’s always easier said than done. But here’s what we’ve found out is the key to starting all over again.

The first thing to do is reflect on your past. We think it’s important that we evaluate why we’re starting over in the first place. When we understand the root cause of our desire to start over, we can provide insights and create the way for a more meaningful journey ahead. We suggest journaling as a powerful tool for this reflection. Writing it down allows us to be one hundred percent honest with ourselves, free from judgement. We think that journaling offers a safe space to ask ourselves critical questions like the Whys. Also, you can find the stories of people who have documented the journey stories of starting over. Their experiences can serve as a helpful guide, providing both inspiration and warnings.

Another key we’ve noted is not postponing your start date and avoiding making excuses. We say do it now. However, we understand that changing or accepting that it is time to start over is extremely scary. Because of this fear, there’s a high chance that we’ll find ourselves making several excuses as to why we’ve not taken that step yet. The perfect time rarely exists, and waiting for it can lead to endless postponement. Recognise that small steps count just as much as big leaps. You should start today, even if it’s just jotting down your first plan of action.

Thirdly, we think that it’s important to know that you can start over multiple times. It’s never too late and no, you won’t look stupid. Society often pressures us to stick to a linear path, but life rarely follows a straight line. Not everyone will support your decisions, but that’s why they’re YOUR decisions to make and not anyone else’s. Each new beginning brings new opportunities for growth, and the journey itself is a testament to your resilience and adaptability.

Lastly, please block out the negative voices. Now, there are truly people who are rooting for you and are willing to help you with your pivot, and then there are others who are looking to project their fears onto you. Those are the ones to avoid. Surround yourself with a supportive community that uplifts you and shares your vision. Their encouragement can act as what you need against the naysayers. We want you to know that starting over and trying again will always be worth it. If it doesn’t go as planned, at least you tried, and you will definitely have lessons learned from the situation.

Oh and, while we love a spontaneous move, it’s important to have a plan.  You don’t need to have the perfect plan but you can have some form of agenda. For example, if you’re going to need some money to start over in a new city, then now is a good time to check out for apartment prices and start saving towards the first few months worth of rent.

We’re all in this together, and remember, each step you take brings you closer to the life you envision. Here’s to new beginnings and the courage to pursue them.
